That Protects Families From Dangerous Radon Levels

Radon is a naturally occurring gas that concentrates in homes and buildings. Invisible, odorless, and tasteless, radon poses a significant health threat to those exposed to it. In fact, it is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, a cancer that causes over 20,000 deaths each year. The good news about radon – it can be detected through simple testing and eliminated with professional radon services. At A-1 Pest Control, our services are available in Western North Carolina and portions of the Piedmont region and include radon testing and radon mitigation.

Radon Testing

Since you can’t see or smell radon, the only way to know if it’s a problem in a home is by testing for it. At A-1, we offer two radon testing options – continuous monitor testing and charcoal canister testing.

Continuous Monitor Radon Testing
A continuous monitor is set up in the lowest livable area of the dwelling. The testing is conducted over a period of 48 hours and provides an hour-by-hour count of the amount of gas present as well as the overall average. Results are available shortly after the test has been completed and allow our team to provide you with an accurate assessment and a plan for fixing the issue if necessary.
Charcoal Canister Radon Testing
Two charcoal canisters are placed in the lowest liveable area of the structure and remain there for at least 48 hours. Data from the canisters takes between seven to 10 days to gather and includes the average radon levels.

Radon Mitigation

If unsafe levels of radon are detected, A-1 offers an effective solution that includes the installation of a radon mitigation system. This system creates a vacuum to vent radon up and out of the structure where it will dissipate without risk to health or safety. Once the process is underway, A-1 will return around two weeks after installation to ensure gas levels have dropped to a level deemed safe. We also offer annual testing for the radon system as well as repair and adjustment services.
